The Castel San Vincenzo Abbey is close to the springs of the river, in the fertile plain of Rocchetta, defended by the Mainarde mountains and the Matese in the south. The Chronicon Volturnensis is our source of information. The Chronicon is an ancient code dated to 1130 and written by a monk named Giovanni. The monk also used some sources in the monastery dated to the XI century. The foundation of the place lays in the 8th century and is the work of three nobles from Benevento: Paldo, Taso and Tato, who were looking for an area where lives in asceticism. The chosen place was very old (Roman period), there we can find some remains of a church with graves from the 5th-century A.C.
